I like to delve into discographies, and I like to start at random points - basically ramming my shovel into the ground with a self-confident attitude while keeping a straight face. Floors of Heaven shalt mark my descent into Ultha's discography, and it makes for a rocksolid (digging-metaphor pun intended?) start. These are two tracks filled with bleak, dystopian sentiment; a schizophrenic hopelessness manifesto: gelid and slashing on the one hand, grinding and gruelling on the other. Solid!
Favorite track: Forever Always Comes To An End.
Entleiber
Black metal with emotional depth, a crushing and slightly spooky atmosphere, good lyrics and varied vocals that really get to you. What more could one ask for?
Favorite track: Forever Always Comes To An End.

Not only these guys managed to release 3 albums and 3 eps of some of the finest Atmo-BM in a mere 5 years, but they also drop single tracks here and there.
With 2 songs clocking-in at less than 5 minutes, this new release marks a big change in Ultha’s discography. Straight to the point and merciless, Floors of Heaven surprises but never disappoints.
An irrelevant witness upon a great tide of time.
A tide upon which I too shall be extinguished.
Surging ever forward, gruesomely poetical.
The hands are still - it's the world that's shaking,
cutting off my fingers, one by one.
There are no answers in this tempest,
there is no closure in death.
Seemingly silent and still, nightfall tightens the tourniquet of concern even further. Squeezing thoughts into choices measured on my three-fingered hand. My heart doesn't beat like before, crooked and cuffed to the floor.
Forget everything and remember: As another passing phase on the way to the grave visions start to skew and life will always provide one last chance to get it all wrong.

Swirling guitars, furious drums, vocals that at the same time howl from infinite distance and are right up in your head; everything put into dissonant form with the help of unconventional songwriting. This album is my personal key to the icelanding black metal madness that I've ignored for way too long! Lukas Kaufmann

Naxen is a German trio playing classic "Norwegian" style BM with doom passages, which in my opinion adds a twist to the oh-so-stomped-chosen-path of the so-called 2nd wave black metal horde. It's almost too slow at times for me, but I can really appreciate the technical prowess from these relatively new guys. The second part, I agree, is where they really stand out! Gaerea's first release of "Unsettling Whispers" was in 2018, and since, they dared define a "black metal" niche of their own, they dared to walk a new path and stir shit up a bit in the realm of BM, this album is a masterpiece and a milestone proving that it can be done, provided the band can pull it off, and they did, oh they did! Gloomy, dark, post-BM sludgy whatever, it's Gaerea, and this one belongs in my BC collection, the end. sachavonkarl74
